HDMI cables are only able reach a maximum distance of 30 meters (from source to display) without an HDMI booster. Anything longer than that results in quality loss or simply does not work. Running long HDMI cables can be expensive and that is why people have turned to HDMI over Cat6 (ethernet or Lan cable) solutions. Cat6 cables can carry video and audio signal in the exact same way as HDMI can, and are far cheaper. HDMI over Cat6 units come with a Sender and a Receiver which are connected together via Cat6. They can carry signal as far as 50m and 120m depending on the unit. If you’re wanting to run very long HDMI cables, HDMI over Cat6 units are highly recommended in terms of quality and price.
